Turntablism

ANTIMATTER - DJ Radar - Om Records 12inch

This track was from a 12 inch I ended up releasing on Om Records.  Its a song that was literally made from scratch.  I used one turntable, mixer, effects pedals, a stack of records and a multitrack recorder.  With the help of Raul Yanez, I was also able to release a full musical score of the transcription for all the parts in this track as well.  This song also helped to give birth to whole Concerto for Turntable Project.  Click the player to listen or buy the 12inch here.

SUBSONIC SCRATCH - DJ Emile featuring DJ Radar -Swell Records

This is some scratching I recorded live on Dj Emile's Drum & Bass CD.  The third mp3 (Emile's favorite wah scratch I've done) was actually an accident and I almost recorded over it but Emile decided to keep it.  This was definitely a fun project to work on with Emile.

DEEP CONCENTRATION - Various Artists - OM Records

This was one of the first all-turntablist compilation albums back in the day.  I did a song on here called "Radar Frees Tibet" (a turntable only constructed song).  It was a song that was inspired by a session I had with DJ Stylus in Phoenix at my lab (parent's living room back then ;) ).  We pulled an all nighter one night and this is what came from it.  We only had one turntable, a mixer,  some effects pedals, stack of records and a 4 track cassette recorder (yes cassette ;) ).  We actually have a few different versions (will post when I get it converted).  The album is definitely worth picking up.  Click here to buy.

RETURN OF THE DJ VOL II - Various Artists - Bomb Records

DJ - Z-Trip and I released a song on this album called "Private Parts"  and fyi, this was way before the Howard Stern film and is no how related. ;)  Z-Trip and I put this together at his house back in Phoenix and ended up recording it at our friend Dillinger's studio.  Dillinger had some interesting distortion pedals we patched in to get my wah scratches.  This compliation album definitely started alot of things for us.  Click to download or listen below.

SOUNDEVENT - Rob Swift feat Supernatural and DJ Radar

This was 1 of 2 tracks I got to collaborate on with Rob Swift for his album "Soundevent".  The first track was a collab with Large Professor, song is called "Hip Hop on Wax".  The second song "Interview with Colored Man" was track featuring MC Supernatural.  For those who haven't heard or seen Supernatural, he's hands down probably the best freestyle MC around.  Peep him out on youtube.  This whole album is really good and can be picked up at Rob Swift's site.  Click here

Newsflash

Alot of people ask what is a Turntablist? How are they different from Dj's?  I've gotten asked this hundreds of times over the years so I thought I would save everyone some time and clarify. Oftentimes, people relate turntablists to djs and put them in the same category as Djs.  In all honesty, this is a fair assumption, but the truth is that these two disciplines are completely different from each other are completely separate art forms.  In the simplest terms, a DJ play records, a Turntablist manipulates records to make music.
